Validation

A short film by Kurt Kuenne

Having problems with making people smile? You gotta watch this film. Every photographer worth a damn should learn from this guy. When shooting portraits, talk to your subjects, coax them, make them at ease, make them smile, or smirk. Or cry, be mad. Or whatever. Key here is to connect and bring out true emotions that you'd wanna capture for posterity.

Learn to talk and give compliments.

I need a compliment, too. Hit me with your best shot. :p

Video: Tiny Dancer by Elton John

Video grabbed from Youtube.com

This is a definite "fixer-upper". This is one of those songs that just brightens your day (I hope) no matter how low you are at. Go on, take a hit.

Lyrics and more videos of this song after the jump.

"Tiny Dancer"

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

(end lyrics)

Here is a video clip from "Almost Famous" where Tiny Dancer is used as a "fixer-upper". This clip is after Russel's "I am a golden god!" scene.

Here is another from Dave Grohl.

So, uhm, how's the high?

Music: American Pie Videos

American Pie is a great song and really showed Don McLean's talent in songwriting. But transcending all that, the song really succeeded in telling the story about the music scene in the 60's and how it all changed/evolved/decayed in the 70's. And of course, the song wouldn't be written if Buddy Holly hadn't died -- the day the music died.

The songwriter carefully chose the images and symbols he used to capture his audience. The song would eventually spawn multitudes of discussions regarding the American pop culture in those decades -- even in literature classes.

Here are more videos of this song:
- Don Mclean - American Pie
- Weird Al's Version for Star Wars

Enjoy!
